On Monday 23rd September, Energy Ombudsman (part of Trust Alliance Group) hosted a fringe event at the Labour Party Annual Conference in Liverpool to discuss restoring trust and confidence in regulated markets.
Ed Dodman, Business Unit Director at Energy Ombudsman was joined on a panel by Luke Murphy (MP for Basingstoke), Alex Hall-Chen (IoD), Casey Calista (Vorboss & Chair of Labour Digital), Andy Manning (Citizens Advice), with Matt Bevington (Progressive Britain) as the Chair.
The event attracted a full audience as the panel examined the reasons behind declining consumer trust and confidence in recent years and explored why consumer trust is an essential part of a fair and effective market.
During the session Ed Dodman stressed that consumers need to know that when things go wrong, they have somewhere to turn, emphasising the risk of consumers losing trust in the market because of unresolved disputes.
When consumers experience challenges and are unable to resolve their dispute in a timely manner, their trust in that supplier (and sometimes the overall market) is negatively impacted. Dispute resolution services such as Energy Ombudsman exist to rebuild this trust as it helps consumers to feel that they are being treated fairly in a sector that often has complex regulations.
Energy Ombudsman, along with all of TAG’s businesses, continues to work closely with political stakeholders across the UK to share data and insight – helping create better policy, better regulation and better consumer experiences.
