Conservative Party Conference Fringe Event

  • Published Oct 30, 2024

Everyone’s business: restoring trust and confidence in regulated markets.

On Monday 30th September, Energy Ombudsman (part of Trust Alliance Group) hosted its fourth and final 2024 fringe event for the political party season at the Conservative Party Annual Conference in Birmingham to discuss restoring trust and confidence in regulated markets.

Ed Dodman from the Energy Ombudsman was joined on a panel by Dr Luke Evans MP (Shadow Parliamentary Under-Secretary for DCMS), Jerome Mayhew MP (Shadow Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Business and Trade), Anthony Browne (Former Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Decarbonisation and Technology), Patrick English (Director of Political Analytics at YouGov), Clementine Cowton (Director of External Affairs at Octopus), with Ryan Shorthouse (Bright Blue) as the chair.

The event proved as popular as each of the other party conferences, attracting a full audience as the panel examined the reasons behind declining consumer trust and confidence in recent years and explored why consumer trust is an essential part of a fair and effective market.

During the session Ed Dodman, shared his thoughts around building trust, highlighting the Ombudsman role in working with regulators and suppliers to help improve consumer experience, and build trust across the sector overall.

Energy Ombudsman, along with all of TAG’s businesses, continues to work closely with political stakeholders across the UK to share data and insight – helping create better policy, better regulation and better consumer experiences.
