Energy Ombudsman brought together stakeholders from across government, regulation, consumer advocacy and the energy sector at the House of Commons on October 27th to mark its 20th anniversary.
The parliamentary reception provided an opportunity to reflect on how Energy Ombudsman has developed since launching in 2006, while also looking ahead to the changing needs of consumers and the wider energy market.
Energy Ombudsman began as a voluntary scheme covering a relatively small number of complaints. Over the past two decades, its remit has expanded significantly and the service has now supported more than one million consumers across a growing range of energy issues.
The evening was sponsored by Bill Esterson MP, Chair of the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee, and we were joined by Polly Billington MP, Minister for Energy Consumers who gave an address to the guests. Ed Dodman, CEO and Chief Ombudsman, spoke about Energy Ombudsman’s journey over the past 20 years and the importance of continuing to evolve alongside the sector.
As the energy market continues to change, Energy Ombudsman remains focused on delivering fair and effective redress, strengthening relationships across the sector and using insight from complaints to support wider improvement.
Independent redress, insight and collaboration will continue to play an important role in building, maintaining and restoring trust between consumers and businesses, while ensuring the service keeps pace with the market it supports.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the conversations throughout the evening.
