About us

Energy Ombudsman was founded in 2006 to provide independent dispute resolution services. Our free, accessible and easy-to-use service aims to ensure consumers can quickly resolve their issues, regardless of their circumstances and without needing to resort to legal services or court.

With over 2,500 energy companies signed up to our scheme, our impartial and independent service provides fair dispute resolution between consumers and energy suppliers, which builds trust, breaks deadlocks, and delivers the best outcomes for everyone involved.

Our decades of work in regulated sectors have allowed us a broad view, gathering expertise and experience to better serve consumers. We also work to support suppliers in improving their processes and work closely with regulators and the government to improve policy for sector-wide improvements.

Approved by the sector regulator, Ofgem, we’re also appointed by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) to provide alternative dispute resolution for green deal, small businesses, heat networks and energy brokers.

In 2024 we accepted over 93,000 disputes about suppliers in the energy sector, and using our extensive data and insights we continue to help improve the sector.
