Warning: Scam emails claiming to be from Energy Ombudsman

  • Published Feb 03, 2026

We’re aware of a recent increase in fraudulent emails being sent to energy consumers claiming to be from Energy Ombudsman.

These scam messages tell recipients that we’ve “reviewed their case” and that they must take action by filling in a form, often asking for personal information such as full name, address, date of birth or bank details.

These emails are NOT from Energy Ombudsman.

We’ll never ask you to open a new energy account, nor will we request sensitive personal information via online forms or links.

What to look out for

The scam emails may:

  • Use our name and logo without permission
  • Reference a complaint or review you have not raised
  • Contain links to fake forms or websites
  • Pressure you to act quickly
  • Come from a free email service such as Gmail
  • Use a misspelling of a company name

If you receive an unexpected message asking you to provide personal details, DO NOT click on any links and DO NOT share any information.

What you should do

  • Do not complete any forms or provide any personal information
  • Delete the email

Your security matters

Protecting consumers is at the heart of what we do. While we work to have these scam messages taken down, please remain vigilant and share this information with friends or family who may be at risk. If you have any concerns, we're here to help.
