Spark Energy Supply Limited, a domestic energy supplier with about 290,000 customers, has ceased trading.

Spark Energy Supply Limited, a domestic energy supplier with about 290,000 customers, has ceased trading.

Energy regulator Ofgem made the announcement today (Friday 23 November).

The news follows the collapse of Extra Energy earlier this week.

“We would echo Ofgem’s advice to Spark Energy customers, namely, to sit tight and take a meter reading.

Don’t panic and don’t switch to a different supplier.

Under Ofgem’s safety net your energy supply is secure and any outstanding credit balances will be protected.

Ofgem will now choose a new supplier and ensure you get the best deal possible.

We are keen to work closely with whichever supplier is chosen to take on Spark Energy’s customers to ensure a smooth transition.

If you’re a consumer who has a complaint about Spark Energy open with us, please be advised that we will be in touch in due course with information on next steps.”

David Pilling, head of policy at Trust Alliance Group
